Pilmigrage Porticate

People of the village feel a great devotion to the Virgin de Porticate. Every 15th of August, the town celebrates a beautiful pilgrimage in honour of this small Virgin, who receives in her hermitage along the year thousands of our fellow countryman visits.

When the Virgin has spent a month in the village, she is returned back to Porticate again, on pilgrimage.

This is a rooted tradition for people of the village, who celebrate it in gratitude to the Virgin del Carmen because the temporary workers went to other places to work and they came back healthy at home.

Porticate Hermitage has its origins in the XVIII Century and its paintings can be dated between 1.755 and 1.800, but it was restored in 1.929.
